It will retail for $75. Will only be available to select shops nationwide in December.

The Hundreds celebrated their 5th year at the infamous Five Five Four Gallery in the mid Wilshire district also know as KTown. Got to see old friends at the party. Great vibe, open bar, hot chicks, and cool guys are what was expected. I pretty much live like 6 blocks from Five Five Four Gallery. Emortal pretty much shares the same hood as the Foreign Family. Anyways big ups to my brothers from the Hundreds! Viva Los Angeles doing good in the hood... Nuff said and just peep the pics.

ESP Japan Opens New Store in L.A.!

ESP shop now open in the fashion district of downtown L.A. They are a Japanese owned streetwear boutique with flagship stores in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan. They carry their own in house brands like Flip the Script, Donuts, Xanthouse, and Dragon Spiral Denim. Emortal had the priviledge of working with Flip the Script in the past and will continue to do so in the future. Look out for future collabos and Japanese exclusive Emortal items in the near future. Wayne "Frosty Freeze" Frost died Thursday at the age of 44 after a long illness. A member of the Rock Steady Crew, he was first featured in the movies Wild Style, Style Wars, Freshest Kids, and Flashdance. A pioneer in the b-boy culture he joined the Rock Steady Crew in 1981 and created the move called the 'Suicide". He will be missed. Even though I didn't know him personally, he was one of my inspirations when I was a kid b-boying. You are Emortal! Rest in Power Frosty Freeze!

As we all know b-boying started in the Bronx back in the early 70's, killed by the media in the late 80's, then suddenly somehow resurfaced in the present. But in reality it never died, it continued all this time and became a force to be reckoned with. Little known to the public, there was an underground b-boy movement that became stronger and stronger as time went on. It soon became a worldwide phenomenon. Shame on the media who exploited the b-boy culture! B-boying came from the streets and the media cannot destroy something that was born from hardship and pain. I know because it was b-boying that got me out of the gangs living in LA in the 80's and continue to inspire me to this day to continue Emortal. It was born from hardship, struggle, acceptance and the will to continue.
Planet B-Boy is documentary on 5 crews from the US, Japan, Korea, and France. The movie emphasizes their struggle, hardship, and acceptance in the world. It was through b-boying that made their mind, body, and soul stronger to overcome the challenges in their lives. The movie was well made and I give the movie two thumbs up. Don't miss this film, it is only showing in limited theaters for a short time. I wish I had a girlfriend, its the perfect date movie. j/k But seriously I would take her to watch this film if I had one. Aight...

Remember the cassette tape? TDK? The term rewind, fast-forward, record/play, or dubbing? Analog audio? Before the Ipod, Mp3 player, digital audio, downloading, and even before the CD player, there was the cassette tape.
As a kid of the 80’s living in Los Angeles, I would record my favorite Mixmaster show on my trusty Panasonic dual cassette tape ghetto blaster. Sometimes I would buy my mix tapes at the local swap meet in downtown LA or swap with the kids in my neighborhood. Cassette tapes would not last too long because of the wear and tear of rewinding and fast forwarding. Hence the term “ I let my tape rock till my tape pop.” The term popularized by Notorious B.I.G. in his song Juicy.
Even though the cassette tape is obsolete, djs who mix their own compilations and distribute them in the market still label them as "mixtapes". Now you can record, I mean download your favorite mixtapes online.

Will Rise Art Show @ the Robert Berman Gallery

The Will Rise art show presented by the Seventh Letter Collective was no doubt a huge success. Great turnout, great vibe, and great art. The show consisted of works by Krush, Skrew, Saber, Push, Revok, Zes, Retna, Rime, Sever, Ewok, & Reyes. Most of the artists were busy mingling but I got a chance to talk and catch up with Retna, Push, and Slick. Shepard Fairey (OBEY) was also there with a bunch of cameras hovering over him. Again mad props to the Seventh Letter for giving us an opportunity to view their work. Check out Known Gallery for more info.

Caught up with some old friends from the Bay, Ruby Red I, Alfred(Tribute), Mega(HUF), Eko, Fritz, and Diz Gibran(Diamond) & his girl at Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ in the Hills of Beverly last night. I had a french dipped sandwich at Hollywood and Highlands before I got there so I didn't get a chance to grub with them. I did have a drink with them cause it was also Eko's birthday. It was good catching up with everybody. Next time I go there I am probably going to try their butterfly garlic shrimp. Just make sure to bring $$$.$$. Thanks Diz for letting me know bout this spot. I'll probably bring my future ex-girlfriend for a dinner date there next time I go and make her pay. j/k...

I was invited to the grand opening of LALLURE boutique in Hollywood last Sunday. Not your typical streetwear shop but more on the boutiquee Japanezee steezee side. Great vibe & very cute/friendly girls working the shop. They carry Japanese and American labels. October 6, 2007 Emortal went down to Milpitas, CA to support Naytron's & Jardy's sister Ruby Lynn's birthday celebration @ the Love the Life You Live- 3 vs.3 B-Boy Jam. During the middle of the event we got to see a video memorial for their sister who was a promising young woman and b-girl who suddenly passed away earlier this year. A somber moment, but I knew everyone was happy that we all got together for her.

It was great to see everyone. Emortal was invited to vend during the event. We usually don't sell directly to the public, but we did it because we always supported the b-boys and Soul Sector Family.

Emortal always paid homage to the b-boys because it was the b-boys who were one of the pioneers of streetwear fashion and lifestyle in the 70's & 80's. From the kicks and shoelaces, to how they wore their headwear and jeans, to their attitude and b-boy stance, and to b-boy culture's never ending quest to continue to evolve.

I hope you enjoy the pics I took and the video I found from YouTube. All elements of streetdance respresented. There was B-boying(breaking), popping, boogaloo, locking, and house. It was was interesting to see poppers vs. lockers vs. b-boys battle it out a jam.

Avenue Releases Limited Edition Original School Skateboards

Avenue Board Shop Releases the Original School Skateboards

Back in the late 60’s and early 70’s skateboards were made from 1 piece carved chunk of wood instead of the layered 7 to 8 plywood they use today for the modern skateboards. Avenue Board Shop from Fountain Valley, CA decided to release 50 limited edition skateboards that were fashioned from the original school era. The decks are made from 1 piece of oak wood; hand carved and sanded. The raw wood deck was branded by hand to give each deck a unique look. It has been stained twice, sanded twice, and then coated. The design on the board is of Andy Warhol’s banana art. The artwork is manually silk screened, so each board is 100% handmade. To go with the board, Avenue decided to use original reissue Trucker trucks and Tunnel Wheels for that true school flavor. A few old school skateboards are out in the market today, but the difference is that these Avenue skateboards are the real things, and hand made like the real originals.

FTS will only open to a limited amount of stores only. They are veterans of the streetwear game in Japan and are a force to be reckon with. June 21, 2007 the premiere of Respond to Sound 2 at the Regent Theater in Hollywood. A documentary of the origin of street dancing from the early 1900's. Yes b-boys in the early 1900's, a guy doing the moonwalk in 1954, and more incredible never seen before footage featured in the movie. The event was hosted by Dirty Bridges Crew, Choreagrapher's Ball, and the Soul Brothers. Emortal was one of the sponsors of the event.

The Gas Face was one of their songs they did back in 1990. A classic. We made this tee back in 2003 and sold only a few pieces. Back then we remained underground and only sold to Digital Gravel. Selvaged Assassin Denim

Selvage denim is a type of denim fabric woven on old-style looms that create a narrow fabric. Jeans made out of this fabric are more durable because the vertical seams are made up of selvages, not cut edges, which are less prone to fraying.
The word "selvage" comes from the phrase "self-edge" and denotes denim made on old-school shuttle looms. These looms weave fabric with one continuous cross thread (the weft) that is passed back and forth all the way down the length of the bolt. As the weft loops back into the edge of the denim it creates this “self-edge” or Selvage. Selvage is desirable because it can’t fray like lower grade denims that have separate wefts which leave an open edge that must be stitched. Shuttle looming is a more time-consuming weaving process that produces denim of a tighter weave resulting in a heavier weight fabric that lasts. [1]
Shuttle looms weave a more narrow piece of fabric, and thus a longer piece of fabric is required to make a pair of jeans (approximately 3 yards). To maximize yield, traditional jean makers use the fabric all the way to the selvage edge. When the cuff is turned up the two selvage edges, where the denim is sewn together, can be seen. The selvage edge is usually stiched with colored thread: green, white, brown, yellow, and red (red is the most common). Fabric mills used these colors to differentiate between fabrics.
Most selvage jeans today are dyed with synthetic indigo, but natural indigo dye is available in smaller niche denim labels. Loop dying machines feed a rope of cotton yarn through vats of indigo dye and then back out. The dye is allowed to oxidize before the next dip. Multiple dips create a deep dark indigo blue.
In response to increased demand for jeans in the 1950's, American denim manufacturers replaced the old shuttle style looms with modern projectile looms. The new looms produced fabric faster and wider (60-inches or wider), yet lighter and less durable. Synthetic dyeing techniques along with post-dye treatments were introduced to control shrink and twist.

It was 1984 when I first witnessed b-boying. Some Latino kid named Mark with a fuzzy afro, wearing white leather gloves and le tigre shirt was doing the six step to a windmill on the concrete of my grade school. Living in a rough neighborhood of downtown Los Angeles, I had two choices before I entered my teens; either join the neighborhood gang or be a b-boy. I chose the better of the two. I lost a few friends to gang violence before the age of 16 and lost a few more after high school. It was b-boying that saved me and continues to inspire me even though I can't keep up with the kids today. The aggressiveness, the power, the finesse, the originality, and the style is what fuels my creativity. Though Emortal is not a b-boy clothing line, we are a lifestyle brand that pays respect to the art form that the media tried to milk and destroy the so called fad of the 80's. The media didn't know, was that it was a culture that was born from hardship, survival, and struggles of the streets. To this day it continues to unite youths of all nationalities and creeds from all over the world. It's the only battle that can bring forth unity and peace.

the Archrival Shop

Downtown Los Angeles is getting a little more and more diverse because of the construction of new condos and lofts. Three years ago when I use to live in one of the downtown lofts, 7pm would be like a ghost town with plenty of parking. Now I got to actually pay for parking if I don't find a spot on the street. Sometimes it's difficult for me to find parking at my distribution office in Little Tokyo. Anyways it’s good for the businesses in J-Town. With the opening of the Archrival last December, Jason, Steve, and Eric made the right move in opening a shop there. These guys know streetwear. They just didn't start a shop because they knew what was hot and wanted to be the coolest guys in town. Jason use to assist in production for a few LA streetwear labels back in the day, Steve, was a semi pro bmx rider, and Eric was the creative director for a few labels including Emortal back in the days.
the Archrival is a streetwear boutique that carries the illest streetwear lines and rare bmx bikes from the 70’s and 80’s. They are located at 349 East 2nd Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

My friend Mike who does tattoos and vinyl stickers helped me set up the booth the night before the show. If you ever need of any vinyl stickers or tattoos or metal fabrication he is the man. You can get at him by going to his myspace page. Elmhurst . Anyways during dinner last Thursday night I jokingly asked one of my Japanese clients if she wanted a tattoo. She immediately said "Yes". So we went up to my hotel room and drew the tattoo on a piece of paper. Mind you there was a major language barrier. And having a fucked up tattoo ain't no joke. So we drove to my friend Mike's house to get the tattoo she wanted. Mike did a great job on her tattoo and all were happy. Here are the pics.

Michael Jordan can out dunk, out run, and out manuever Jayski. But can MJ cut up records and make the Ginzu slice like a plastic knife. Na. No way Jose! Jayski is Emortal's secret weapon and part of the Elite Design Assassin Unit. There are only three in the Design Assassin Unit known to man.
We were thinking of how easy would it be (if there were no security cameras) to tip the statue of MJ and grab the kicks.

I guess I got caught up with the blogging fever too. It's been a little over 3 years since Emortal has been out of the public eye. Just released the Transformer hoodies for Holiday 06 and it was a success.

Last week Emortal premiered its Spring Summer Line @ the Magic Show. Got a lot of warm welcome from old and new friends in the industry. The guys @ 3Sixteen, Foreign Family, Crooks&Castles, Jon Phenom, theHundreds,In4mation, Scifen, Avenue, Buddhapparel,Exact Science, G1, Digital Gravel & everyone else gave us a warm welcome back. Met many new friends and opened a lot of new accounts. The show was unexpectedly a success. The bad thing was I didn't have time to take more pics and party. It's hard to be a one man army.
Just wanted to give shout outs to Ryo (Emortal Japan) who did all the samples, Mikey from Takeover Makati who helped me out during the show, Nicole & Cody for manning the booth, and the Elmhurst Crew for helping me set up before the show.
